Julian Flynn's Colour Photography

Though nearly all my work is in black and white I have occasionally photographed in colour. When I started photographing seriously I'd sometimes set out with one camera loaded with colour film, and another with black and white film. I quickly learnt that each required a very different way of looking at the world and that trying to simultaneously maintain both ways of seeing had a bad effect on my photography.

Realising this made me commit to my first love: black and white. However many of my favourite photographers have worked in colour. Maybe one day I will devote myself more seriously to its possibilities. Here are some photographers who have used colour and whose work I love: Stephen Shore, Jan Groover, Harry Gruyaert, Richard Billingham, William Eggleston, William Christenberry, Joel Meyerowitz, Joel Sternfeld & Walker Evans's late polaroid work.
